The media department from South Essex College put on an amazing end of year show in Southend.
The event showcased all the subjects that come under the media umbrella including animation, broadcast media, games design, journalism and radio production.
Held at the Park Inn by Radisson Palace hotel on Southend seafront; guests enjoyed an interactive visiting experience viewing print, digital and film work by the students.
The opening night of the show also included a media awards ceremony rewarding the best and most improved students of the department.
Andrew Doherty, 21, Level 3 Television and Film Production student won most improved student of the year award. Andrew from Leigh has been at the College’s Southend Campus for five years, working his way through Level 1, 2 and 3 Diploma courses.
He said: “I feel like I’ve won the Premier League, I was shocked to win the award. I’m really happy though, I’ve had a great time at the College.”
Matt Flower, also a Level 3 Television and Film Production student thought the show was a great success.
Matt, 18, from Billericay, said: “It took a long while to put together but the final show looked very professional. The opening night was brilliant. I’m really excited to carry on my film education at the University of Hertfordshire now.”
Sam Summerson, Deputy Head of Department for Media & Performing Arts said: “The show demonstrated the high standard of work that our students produce and the wide variety of projects they get to experience on their course.
“In addition to being a fantastic exhibition for the students, I was particularly proud to provide a tour to some of our media industry contacts, it was great to see how impressed they were with the professional standards our students achieve.”
The show brochure was designed and published by Lewis Saye, Media Apprentice at the College. He saw the job right through from collecting the student submissions to visiting print company, Circle Services Group, to watch it being printed.
Lewis hopes to secure a career in the graphic design industry. He said: “I’m proud of the high quality end result. It was an excellent opportunity for my first full job.”
