A group of dancers from South Essex College have made the semi-finals of a national dance competition organised by milkshake shop, Shakeaway.

First and second year students studying the UAL Performing Arts (Dance) Level 3 Diploma at the College’s Southend Campus had to submit a video performance to enter.

Their entry was awarded the best in Southend and now the video will go through to a public online vote to pick the overall winners.

Voting runs from 9 - 22 November and during that period a special shake will be available at the Victoria Shopping Centre Shakeaway store.

The Dance Troupe milkshake is titled ‘Fully Charged’ and for each shake sold, £1 will be donated to the College.

Becky Quinn and Emily Balls lead the College dance course. Becky said: “We’ve spent the last five weeks working hard to prepare and polish our routine. We’re so proud of the troupe for getting through to the next round. We really want the whole of Southend to get behind us now and buy as many shakes as possible!”

Shakeaway’s UK Best Dance Troupe Competition is supported by the west end show, Bend it like Beckham. Winners will get to take part in a ‘how to make it on the west end stage’ workshop plus receive tickets to see the show.
