A film created by a South Essex College A-Level student was recognised nationally in WJEC’s Moving Image Awards.

Rasika Chomkwang received a special mention in the Welsh examination board’s competition for her film ‘Dream on.’

From over 700 entries, Rasika’s project was picked out in the short film category and will now feature on the WJEC awards website showreel.

The film is about a college student who gets set his first assignment and the struggles he goes through to complete it.

Rasika, 17 from Brentwood, said: “It was a quick idea I came up with, it allowed me to create an interesting piece with little resources. I just needed the help of a friend and my camera.

“I was surprised to win, the recognition will look good on my CV when I hopefully peruse a career in the film industry after College.”

Rasika studies A-Levels in Film Studies, Media Studies and Art at the College’s Southend Campus.

College Film Lecturer, Simon Grainge, said: “This is a huge achievement for Rasika. We encouraged her to enter the competition as we knew the piece had potential, it’s brilliant to see the WJEC pick up on it too.”
