Business students at South Essex College’s Southend campus benefitted from a week long programme of visits and talks from industry professionals.

The College held Industry Week which involved experts from a range of organisations coming into the College to share tips and information with the students to help them expand their understanding.

Some of the exhibitors who came in during the week included NatWest, Lloyds Bank, Metro Bank, Levy & Co solicitors and Southend Council. Local entrepreneur Heidi Webster, founder of Made You Look Flowers, came in to talk to students about setting up her own business, magistrate Jennifer Bentley held a mock court room scenario for Legal Secretaries students and accountant Russell Tillbrook held a series of talks.

One student who hopped aboard the NatWest Business bus, Alfie Freer, said the event was very informative.

Alfie, 17 from Maldon, studies on the Level 3 Business course. He said: “It’s been great to listen to industry experts and to learn from their experience. It’s also good to know what employers are looking for so when we’re ready to go into the workplace we know what will give us the upper hand.”

Former Peter Jones Academy students, twins Eloise and Juliet Cumberland, popped in during the week to speak to students about their time at the College and to share their tips for success.

The duo both 20 years old and from Rochford said it was great to come back to help the current students because they wanted to give something back to the College which supported them so much in their studies.
