Art students from South Essex College are currently exhibiting their work at the Southend Campus Gallery.

Two exhibitions entitled Elements and Innuendo will run from Wednesday 3 February to Wednesday 10 February.

Level 3 Extended Diploma Fine Art and General Art & Design students were given the title themes to help them create pieces of work that represented those subjects.

Alyshia Willis who studies on the Fine Art course designed an installation entitled ‘Air Traffic’ made up of flying origami birds basked in light. Alyshia, 17, from Thorpe Bay said: “To me, elements symbolise nature and straight away I thought of birds. I wanted to design something different, origami really interest me so that’s why I chose to make the birds with that technique.

“The light just makes the piece move across the room and helps with the interaction of the installation. It was a difficult process to put together but the end effect has made it extremely worth it.”

The Campus Gallery based on the first floor of the College’s Southend site in Luker Road allows students to exhibit their creations in professional gallery surroundings.

Members of the public can view the exhibitions during the week between 9am-5pm (4.30pm on Friday). Please sign in at the main reception and ask to view the Campus Gallery. For more information about the gallery, visit https://thecampusgallery.wordpress.com/
