South Essex College students were treated to a talk from staff at London Southend Airport during a travel and tourism industry week.
A variety of speakers attended the session to show the students the range of roles available at the airport including Front of House Supervisor, Airport Development Coordinator and Community Affairs Coordinator.
The Travel and Tourism and Aviation Operations students from the College’s Southend and Thurrock campuses received lots of advice from the employees. They also learnt about the career journeys of the speakers and how they had got into their jobs.
James Dujakovic studies Level 3 Aviation Operations. James, 16, from Leigh said: “It’s been really interesting and given me such an insight into the industry. I want to be a pilot but now I know there are lots of other roles to fall back on if that doesn’t work out.”
Hannah Lo Bao, Head of Customer Service and Business Aviation at the Airport, said: “The team who attended the event today have quite varied roles from front of house and security to marketing & PR to operations & dispatch. It’s great to show the students the wide variety of opportunities at their local airport and to encourage them to think about a career in aviation.”
The talk was part of the Travel and Tourism Industry Week which saw lots of companies involved in the aviation industry visit the College for lecturers and activities. Other guests included British Airways, Stansted Airport and Hilton Hotels.
