Students and staff gathered across all campuses of South Essex College across Basildon, Southend and Thurrock to remember the fallen of conflicts, both past and present, as they observed the two minutes silence of Remembrance Day.
Chris Priest, lecturer in Uniformed Public Services, spoke about the significance of the two minute silence, especially in relation to his students. He said: “Remembrance Day particularly resonates with our Uniformed Public Services students, as a number will enter into careers in almost every sector of public life, including the armed forces, perhaps requiring them to meet situations where personal harm or that of colleagues may become a reality. They are therefore able to identify strongly with the message conveyed by the two minutes silence.
“I’d also like to pass on our thanks to the large number of students and staff who came out to support us and the message of this important day ensuring that we shall always remember and never forget those lost in time of war.”
